Safeguarding Policy
Last Updated: 18 March 2026
1. Introduction
Caravan Adventuring is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all members of our community, including children, young people, and adults at risk. As a content creation business focusing on caravanning, campsite reviews, and travel within the UK and Europe, we recognise our responsibility to promote the welfare of those who interact with our brand, whether online or in person during our travels.
This policy outlines our commitment to safeguarding and sets out the principles that guide our approach to protection and digital safety.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all activities conducted by Caravan Adventuring, including:
- The production of video content for platforms such as YouTube.
- Interactions on social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, etc.).
- Physical interactions with members of the public while filming at campsites or tourist locations.
- The management of user-generated content and reviews on our digital platforms.
3. Core Principles and Commitment
We believe that:
- The welfare of children, young people, and adults at risk is paramount.
- All individuals, regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation, have a right to equal protection from all types of harm or abuse.
- Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility, and concerns will be taken seriously, responded to promptly, and recorded appropriately.
- We take a "do no harm" approach to filming, publishing, and community management, prioritising privacy, dignity, and safety.
- Working in partnership with our community, campsites/venues, and relevant authorities is essential in promoting safeguarding.
For the purposes of this policy:
- Child/children means anyone under the age of 18.
- Adult at risk / vulnerable adult means an adult who may be unable to protect themselves from harm or exploitation due to care/support needs, disability, illness, age, or other vulnerability factors.
4. Content Creation and Photography (Safe Filming Practices)
When creating content for Caravan Adventuring (including reviews of campsites and products), we adhere to the following guidelines:
- Consent (identifiable footage): We will not knowingly film or photograph children or adults at risk in a way that makes them identifiable without the express consent of a parent/guardian (for children) or the individual themselves (where they have capacity to consent).
- Filming in public or shared spaces: Campsites and tourist attractions often include shared/public areas. Where children may appear incidentally in the background and we do not have consent, we will take reasonable steps to avoid making them identifiable (for example: filming wide shots that do not focus on children, filming at quieter times, changing angles, or editing to blur faces/distinctive features).
- Blurring and editing: If a child appears in footage and consent has not been obtained, we will blur faces and any other identifying features (for example, name badges, school logos, vehicle registration plates connected to a child, or distinctive clothing where feasible). If blurring would not adequately reduce risk, we will remove the clip entirely.
- No targeting of minors: We will not film content that focuses on children as subjects (for example, following, interviewing, or repeatedly filming specific children) unless there is a clear safeguarding rationale and appropriate, documented consent.
- Appropriate context: We ensure that all footage and imagery are appropriate and relevant to caravanning and travel. We avoid capturing sensitive, embarrassing, or private moments of third parties (for example, children in swimwear, at play areas in a way that could be misused, or moments of distress).
- Location privacy and doxxing prevention: We take care not to disclose information that could identify where a child or adult at risk is staying or can be found (for example, pitch numbers, exact locations of a family's setup, or patterns of travel linked to a particular child). We also avoid sharing residential details beyond the public campsite/venue being reviewed.
- If consent is withdrawn: If a parent/guardian or the individual (where appropriate) later asks us to remove identifiable content, we will assess and action the request promptly where reasonably possible (including removing, editing, re-uploading, or blurring as needed).
- Working with campsites/venues: Where required, we will follow campsite/venue rules on filming and signage, and we will cooperate with requests from staff to stop filming in specific areas for safety and privacy.
5. Online Safety and Interaction (Community Safety)
As an online-first business, we recognise that the digital space presents unique safeguarding challenges.
- Moderation and monitoring: We monitor comments and interactions on our social media channels to protect our audience from grooming, bullying, harassment, hate speech, sexualised comments about minors, or content that encourages risky/illegal behaviour.
- Removal of harmful content: We may remove comments/posts and restrict users where content is abusive, sexual, threatening, discriminatory, targets a child or adult at risk, shares personal information, or attempts to move conversations off-platform (for example, requesting private contact details).
- No tolerance of grooming behaviour: We will block and (where appropriate) report accounts that attempt to befriend, manipulate, sexualise, or exploit minors or adults at risk, including repeated attempts to contact them via our channels.
- Reporting and escalation: We encourage our community to report any concerning behaviour. Where appropriate, we will report users and content to the relevant platform and/or to authorities.
- Direct messaging boundaries: We maintain professional boundaries in all digital communications. We do not engage in private, one-on-one digital correspondence with individuals known or reasonably suspected to be under the age of 18. Where contact is necessary (for example, a parent/guardian contacting us about a safeguarding or content concern), we will keep communications brief, appropriate, and (where possible) via our official email address.
- Links and external contact: We do not request personal contact details from children. We discourage sharing of personal information (for example, phone numbers, addresses, school details, or live location) in public comments.
- Community expectations: We may publish or enforce community guidelines aligned with this policy and reserve the right to moderate in order to protect our audience.
6. Responsibilities
Andy, as the CEO and lead creator of Caravan Adventuring, holds the primary responsibility for safeguarding within the company. This includes:
- Ensuring this policy is kept up to date with current UK and EU legislation.
- Implementing best practices for data protection and digital safety.
- Acting as the point of contact for any safeguarding concerns.
7. Reporting a Concern (Procedures)
If you have a safeguarding concern related to Caravan Adventuring's content, filming activity, or online presence, please contact us as soon as possible:
When reporting, please include (if safe to do so):
- What you are concerned about (a short description).
- Where it happened (platform, location, and date/time if known).
- Any relevant links, usernames, screenshots, or video timestamps.
- Whether a child or adult at risk may be in immediate danger.
What we will do:
- Take it seriously and act promptly. We will review the concern as soon as reasonably possible.
- Record the concern. We will keep a confidential record of the report and actions taken (sharing only where necessary).
- Reduce immediate risk. This may include removing or editing content, turning off comments, blocking accounts, reporting to the platform, or pausing filming in a location.
- Escalate where appropriate. If we believe a child or adult at risk is at risk of harm, exploitation, or a crime may have been committed, we may report the matter to the relevant authorities and cooperate with any investigation.
⚠ Immediate Risk of Harm
If someone is in immediate danger, call emergency services — 999 in the UK / 112 in the EU — or contact local police/authorities in the relevant jurisdiction.
Caravan Adventuring takes safeguarding seriously and will cooperate with relevant authorities where required or appropriate to protect children and adults at risk.
8. Review
This policy will be reviewed annually or sooner if there are changes in legislation or business operations to ensure it remains effective and relevant.
