Campsite Les Menhirs: Sunshine, Stones, and Strawberry Mojitos in Brittany

There is something special about the build-up to a summer holiday. In July 2024, our group set off for Brittany, France. Amy, Marc, Faith, Kieran, and I were all excited. Our destination was Les Menhirs in Carnac. We chose Campsite Les Menhirs because it offered everything we wanted for a memorable stay. Moreover, Carnac felt perfect for a relaxed family break.

The journey began with the familiar excitement of the Le Shuttle crossing. There is always a sense of progress there. You drive on in the UK. Then, you roll off in France just 35 minutes later. However, the weather changed fast after we arrived. Rain hammered down for hours. Consequently, the motorway felt slow and draining. Traffic built up quickly. Even so, bad weather rarely shapes the whole trip.

Arrival at Campsite Les Menhirs

After hours of driving, we finally reached Carnac. Then, as we arrived at Campsite Les Menhirs, the clouds broke. The sun appeared almost on cue. It felt like a proper Brittany welcome. Consequently, the earlier rain was soon forgotten.

We checked into a modern, spacious lodge for seven nights. It gave us a great balance of comfort and campsite atmosphere. Moreover, we had a proper kitchen, comfy beds, and a handy deck. Once we unpacked, the holiday felt real. If you want more trip photos, have a look at our Gallery.

The Carnac Stones

Stepping Back in Time

You can’t stay in Carnac without seeing the famous stones nearby. The Alignments of Carnac are world-famous. For good reason, too. Just a short distance away, thousands of standing stones line the fields.

Walking among them was a real highlight. There is a huge sense of scale there. Moreover, the history feels impossible to ignore. We spent hours wandering the paths in the July sun. We tried to imagine how people moved these stones long ago. Some stones are small. Others tower above you. Consequently, they made a brilliant backdrop for family photos. It’s peaceful there, despite the popularity. That contrast made the place feel even more special.

Fun at Campsite Les Menhirs Water Park

While the history interested the adults, the kids wanted the pools. Campsite Les Menhirs has a fantastic water park. Consequently, it became the centre of our days.

Water Slides and Pools Campsite Les Menhirs

The water park has indoor and outdoor heated pools. However, we spent most of our time outside in the sunshine. The water slides were the real stars. Faith and Kieran raced down them for hours. In particular, the “Spacebowl” was a big favourite. Watching them vanish into the funnel was always funny. Moreover, the pool area felt very family-friendly. There was plenty of room to relax. Meanwhile, the kids burned off endless energy. It really helped us slip into holiday mode.

A Bike Adventure

One afternoon, we explored the area in a more unusual way. We rented a six-person pedal bike with a roof.

Six-Person Bike

If you’ve never coordinated six people on one bike, it’s chaotic fun. There was lots of laughter. There was also plenty of shouting. However, it was a brilliant way to see Carnac. We passed sandy beaches and lovely town streets. Moreover, the bike got plenty of attention. Other holidaymakers waved as we puffed up slight hills. It gave us a great view of the coastline. Despite the effort, it was one of the week’s best moments.

Evenings at Campsite Les Menhirs

As the sun set, the campsite felt much calmer. One of the best parts of lodge stays is the private BBQ space. Several evenings, Marc cooked local produce from nearby markets. There’s nothing better than BBQ smells on a warm campsite evening.

After dinner, we often wandered to the main bar area. The evening entertainment was lively and fun. Moreover, the kids had plenty to enjoy. For the adults, though, the strawberry mojitos stole the show.

They were genuinely delicious. Fresh mint, lime, and strawberries made them perfect in the heat. We probably had more than a few. However, that’s part of being on holiday. Sitting outside with a drink felt like the perfect end to each day.

A Week to Remember at Campsite Les Menhirs

By the end of seven nights, we still weren’t ready to leave. Brittany really delivered. From ancient stones to coastal bike rides, each day brought something different. Moreover, the campsite was a brilliant base for the week.

We left Carnac with sore legs, sun-kissed skin, and great memories. The rainy drive already felt far away. Instead, we remembered blue skies and strawberry mojitos. Brittany is a beautiful part of France. Campsite Les Menhirs gave us a family break we’d happily repeat.
