Heathside Holidays provides a peaceful setting and a convenient base for exploring the surrounding area. While our stay had some positive aspects, we felt the site fell short in several key areas that prevented it from competing with some of the stronger touring parks we have reviewed.
The site offers the essentials required for a touring stay, but a number of issues relating to facilities, connectivity and pitch quality impacted our overall experience.
Location
Heathside Holidays is reasonably well positioned for exploring the local area and nearby attractions. It provides a practical base for those wanting to discover the surrounding countryside and nearby towns.
While the location worked well enough for our visit, it wasn’t particularly memorable and lacked the standout appeal of some of the higher-scoring sites we have stayed at. Nevertheless, it remains a decent base from which to explore the area.
Facilities
The facilities at Heathside Holidays provided the basics needed for a touring stay, but overall they felt fairly limited.
One area that stood out was the on-site shop. While it was useful to have available, the range of products was quite basic and the opening hours were very limited. This reduced its convenience and meant it wasn’t always available when needed.
Overall, the facilities were functional but lacked the quality, variety and additional features that many caravanners now expect from a modern touring site.
Cleanliness
Cleanliness throughout the site was generally acceptable during our stay.
The facilities and grounds were maintained to a reasonable standard and we did not encounter any major cleanliness concerns. However, the overall presentation lacked the attention to detail and exceptionally high standards that we have experienced at some of the better touring parks.
While certainly not poor, there is room for improvement in this area.
Pitch Quality
The pitches were the weakest aspect of our stay and ultimately had the biggest impact on our overall score.
Our pitch was noticeably sloped, making setup more difficult than it should have been and reducing overall comfort during our stay. We also experienced virtually no mobile phone signal on site, which may be frustrating for visitors who rely on their phones for communication, navigation or entertainment.
Unfortunately, the site’s WiFi did little to compensate. During our stay we found it unreliable and largely unusable, making it difficult to stay connected when needed.
Combined with the overall presentation of the pitches, these issues prevented this category from scoring higher.
Value for Money
Despite some of the shortcomings we experienced, Heathside Holidays still offers reasonable value for money.
The site provides a straightforward touring experience at a price point that many visitors may find acceptable. While improvements are needed in several areas, the overall cost of staying here helps balance some of those concerns.
For those simply looking for a base from which to explore the local area, the site may still represent reasonable value.
Final Verdict
Heathside Holidays provides a functional touring base, but several aspects of our stay prevented it from achieving a higher score.
While the location is reasonable and the site offers acceptable value for money, we found the facilities fairly basic, the shop limited both in stock and opening hours, and the pitch quality disappointing.
A sloping pitch, poor mobile phone signal and ineffective WiFi all negatively affected the overall experience. Although the site was generally clean and served its purpose as a touring base, it lacked many of the features and standards that help the best sites stand out.
There is certainly potential here, but improvements to the facilities, connectivity and pitch quality would make a significant difference for future visitors.
For caravanners simply looking for a base from which to explore the surrounding area, Heathside Holidays may still be worth considering. However, those seeking premium facilities, level pitches and reliable connectivity may wish to consider alternative sites.
